Best Way To Start Learning English

I have been an English teacher over a decade now. During that time the most common question I get asked is how can I learn or improve my English. I already covered how to improve your English in an earlier article you can find here. As I mentioned in the previous article a new learner has different needs than someone who is trying to improve their English. That does not mean that this article won't be helpful though. This method is a great technique to improve your vocabulary.

There are a number of programs that you can use on the Internet, download to a computer, or download to a phone. These programs are free and effective. They are based on scientific research about how you learn. They are based on what is known as spaced repetition training.

I have used these programs for English students as well as other students. I have seen great success. I had a number of studies in Vietnam who were young and knew very little English and their parents were amazed at how quickly they learned so many words. These programs are good for specific goals. They are great to use to improve your vocabulary. That is the best part about them.

Even if you are just starting to learn you can find programs in your language where you can be taught your word paired with the English. This means you can learn on your own and do not need anyone to teach you. These programs are limited in teaching you grammar. You can pick it up but memorizing phrases and you can kind of figure things out from that but it is best to at least get a book or even better take actual classes to learn grammar.

If you are trying to improve your English it helps to have a large Vernacular or vocabulary. This gives you more options to express what you want. These programs are great for that.

Some of these programs include Memrise, Anki, and Dueling are just a few of these programs. I will discuss the various programs in more detail at a later time.

Do you have experience with any of these programs? What do you think about them? Let us know by commenting below.
